The second day of the GINila experience was really great, we learnt a lot and got to experience something new. Today we all split up into groups to go for a service trip. I was sent to SPECS, this service specialized in ‘education for all’, SPECS is an organization which is based on education and poverty in homes, the site we visited was a boys home which worked as a school as well as an orphanage. As soon as we got near to the site, we got an idea of the atmosphere, despite the condition no one failed to wave or smile as we walked by. We entered the site and we were hugged, and so warmly welcomed. We started off just talking and hanging out with the children there. We also got a chance to interview some people that gave a us a new perspective. We talked about things like their struggles and some problems they face in their daily lifestyle. After talking to them I realized the struggle and the importance of having an organization as such, we talked to a married man with two children, they seemed very happy however they also had some serious struggles that they had to overcome in their everyday lifestyle. Some of the things that they came across were things as simple as lack of school supplies but also things as key as medical care, the government provides medicine but to the family this isn’t very useful as the government doesn’t provide the appropriate medicine for the sickness. It was really eye-opening to hear stories like that, they have been through struggles relating to nature, society, well-being and economy and SPECS was there as a support, it is evident that the boys are happy and are enjoying their time as part of the NGO.
