OVERVIEW: GIN MANILA 2015
Last year, the International School Manila (ISM) held the first ever Global Issues Network Manila (GINila) Conference on Friday- September 4 (12pm-8:30pm) and Saturday September 5 (7:00am-8:30pm), 2015.
The conference comprised of a maximum of 70 students from high schools all over Manila. Participating student delegates were be allocated to a Global Issue Networking Group (GANG) for the conference so they could engage deeply with one global issue and collaborate with their peers to contextualize and address it in our community. This will be done not only through student workshops, but through a morning of community service.
The issues chosen for this year's conference were deemed relevant to Manila by the ISM student advisory committee, but they can change form year to year. Though similar to the international Global Issues Network , these issues will pull from Francois Richard's "20 Global Issues".
In no particular order, the global issues we will focus on this year will be:
- Biodiversity and Ecosystem Losses
- Education for All
- Massive Step Up in the Fight Against Poverty
- Natural Disaster Prevention and Mitigation
During the conference, student will not only spend time with their GANGs, but they will also have time to network, engage in service, and hear from a local expert.
